STEVE GREEN (Drums)

Other Group Members

Steve was first inspired to play when he heard The Sundowners at an open air concert in Sutton Park when he was about 12-13 yrs old. They burst into 'Shadoogie' with an incredibly authentic sound, which at the time 'knocked him backwards' as he described it.

Steve initially began tapping out rhythms with improvised drum sticks made from dowelling he found in the garden shed, whilst using the furniture in the house as a make-shift drum kit !, Each day arriving home from school meant setting a pile of the latest Shadows singles onto the auto record player, with Steve quickly assimilating the licks and beats of the day and wearing out the family furniture! He soon moved on to a proper pair of drumsticks and after acquiring a drum tutor written by Buddy Rich was soon mastering his craft under the watchful eye of his mentor, the late Mike Evans.

After a couple of years experience with his first band, The Moonshots, Steve joined The Jaguars, who had an awesome local reputation in the early-1960s, being one of the best semi-pro groups in the area. Steve then turned pro with Steve Brett and The Mavericks playing and recording all over the UK and Germany, until he suffered a near fatal road accident in September 1966.

Steve went on to play with a number of groups; The Production, Belle Sebastion, Light Fantastic, Casino Royale and 5 Star Deluxe.  Throughout the 1980s Steve was involved in many recordings as a session musician before joining a residency at a cabaret restaurant known as Hardies, also playing Kings, The Night Out and other top venues of the day.

In more recent times Steve's interest in performing was re-kindled with a couple of re-union gigs with The Jaguars at various Shadows guitar clubs. Steve is now delighted to take up the role of Bootleg Shadows drummer.
